KIMONO
An installation of a collage,triptych, a kimono and a large vase / display of flowers, is the setting for a short performance. Set in a darkened domestic space with just a spotlight on the collage triptych. Performer enters dressed in Kimono - depending on performer wearing minimum clothing or nothing underneath . Very slowly moving while also exposing parts of the body to bright or half light - referencing the collage images. Eventually, in darkest area of the space removing kimono and hanging on the wall. Performer leaves space and as they disappear, switch on second spotlight to light kimono.
The collage developed from an idea or inspiration that manifested itself when discussing Kimonos and in particular Rag Kimonos.
The Kimono was handmade in USA c.1985, from silk fabrics that were originally traditional Japanese kimonos, dating from various earlier times. ie the maker has followed in the tradition of the Japanese makers of rag kimonos; recycling older garments.
