Recent Art Practice
Painting, Sculpture, Collage and Performance

From about 2015 I started exploring various ways of art making other than the traditional painting on canvas and steel or stone sculpture. 
Some inspiration came via by the 100th anniversary of the start of the Dada art movement, and by the opportunity to celebrate this with an exhibition at the Shoalhaven Regional Art Gallery I started a series of fun, small ceramic sculptures and collages. The series goes under the banner of "Fetish", as in the small dolls or objects a shaman or "witchdoctor" might employ; an inanimate object, regarded with awe as the embodiment or habitation of a potent spirit.
I also completed a series of major paintings and sculpture influenced by the poetry and plays of Fredrico Garcia Lorca.
In about 2019, collage and performance beckoned.
I had always enjoyed and dabbled in collage since my early days at National Art School but the Dada anniversary sparked the interest in serious exploration.
With performance, I was introduced to the joys of performance by "Flash", a person I had met in the 1970's and for five years we enacted various performances, some public, some in private for ourselves and a maybe a few friends. In the last few years I had also participated, as one of a number of selected volunteers in theatre events with Performance Space, Belvoir Theatre, Sydney Dance Company as well as one of the three performance artists in the video "Children are to be Seen" produced to be shown as part of an exhibition at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery. This was an area of art I wanted to explore further.
