" DO " paintings This series came about when I decided to call a work "do not demand a meaning" after I had just (re)read Fredrick Gore's Abstract Art in which he says "...all works of art must speak in riddles, for like life itself, they are best understood when we do not demand a meaning."
The first time that the painting was exhibited a visitor, on reading the title, asked "Do you really mean it ?" Abstract Art Fredrick Gore Methuen 1956 |
